Grammaire
Below you will find various resources you can use to refine those French grammar skills outside of class. Please contact me if you have any clarifying questions on how the sites function.
Online Dictionaries
Note: The use of online translators to translate more than just ONE WORD (or idiomatic expression) is considered cheating and will result in disciplinary action.
WordReference
This is by far the online dictionary I hear recommended the most by foreign language teachers. It offers not only the word you are looking up in the target language, but also common expressions the word is used in. There are also forums where you can look over specific contexts the words/expressions have been used, or ask your own question to the French-speaking community.
Larousse
While this dictionary has a bilingual option, I recommend using the French only version. See is you can understand what the word is by reading the French definition. You will improve your fluency this way.
Linguee
While this is technically a translation site, it does not work well to translate more than an expression or phrase. What is helpful is how this site gives you in both French and English the context the phrase is being used in. This can be particularly useful when trying to choose between two words given in a dictionary.
Notice that Google Translate is not listed. It is NOT recommended as it does not offer any guidance in how to choose between multiple translations for a word/expression. It has also incorrectly translated expressions on multiple occasions for students.
